The University of Toledo Composition Common Read brings our students and faculty together in a shared reading and writing experience.

This meaningful program provides students with an introduction to the strong relationship between reading, writing and knowledge-making.

Each year, a committee of Composition program faculty devotes five months to reading and carefully considering texts that will introduce our writing students to issues relevant in today’s global community and engage them in the academic writer’s life.

The Composition Common Read supports the University of Toledo’s Mission to create opportunities for students to “vigorously pursue and widely share new knowledge; expand the understanding of existing knowledge; develop the knowledge, skills and competencies of students, faculty, staff and the community while promoting a culture of lifelong learning.”

It also aligns with the Composition Program’s objectives “to foster students’ ability to write, read, and think critically and actively.”
