Students whose writing is inspired by our Composition Common Read are invited to enter their work in the Shapiro Writing Competition.

The deadline for entries is 5 pm on Friday, March 25, 2017.

Comp I Common Read | Non-Research:

Submissions in this category are limited to writings inspired by the Common Read Text. These writings should demonstrate a clear link to the theme of the Common Read text and may include memoirs, narratives, analyses, responses, profiles, letters, blogs, commentaries, or expository writing. One prize will also be set aside in this category for submissions in new media format, such as visual arguments, presentations, infographics or websites.

Comp I Common Read | Research:

Submissions in this category are limited to writings inspired by the Common Read Text. These writings should demonstrate a clear link to the theme of the Common Read text and include use of secondary research (generally 4 or more sources) with proper documentation in text and on a final reference page. Sources should be used to support the writer’s discussion, rather than simply summarized.
